Exclusive Model Interview:Champaka Ananth, The Versatile one

Hello Readers, Well this post is the first one after our website redesign. Cheers for that. Its been tough to move to wordpress from Blogger but the journey has been exciting with sleepless nights.

But, today to give you one more sleepless night, we have a hot versatile girl with us from Bangalore,India.

& let the talk begin..

Give me some basic information about yourself. Where are you from? Where do/did you go to high school/college? What are some of your main interests and hobbies?

I’m a from Bangalore. I did my schooling at Holy Child Convent and my Pre-University at National college-Jayanagar,Bangalore. I’m currently pursuing my degree in civil engineering at Global Academy of Technology.
I love and enjoy dancing, reading and travelling.

How would you describe your professional interests?

-I’ve always dreamt of being a successful model and an engineer.

What’s your background in modeling? When and why did you get started? Was it for the glamour? The money? Pure kicks?

-None. I do not have a background. It started very randomly, though I’ve dreamt of being a model right from childhood, I never thought the idea would infact manifest into reality. It started with a casual photo-shoot for a friend. No, it wasn’t for the money or pure kicks. It was perhaps for the glamour and color the field holds.

Who are some of your favorite models and designers, and why?

-I absolutely adore Aishwarya Rai Bacchan and Deepika Padukone, both who were amazing models before they became actresses. I also like Naomi campbell, Candice Swanepoel, Carol Gracias and Indrani Das Gupta. And as for the designers, I love Manish Malhotra, Nikhil and Santanu, Neeta Lulla, Ramesh Dembla, Ritu Kumar and Rohit Bal.

Which fashion magazines, websites, blogs, and catalogs do you visit most often?

-I don’t really follow magazines or websites much. But I enjoy flipping through Vogue, Elle, Femina and Verve while waiting at the beauty parlor :P

What’s your fashion mantra?

-Being comfortable and confident in whatever you wear is the key to look gorgeous even if it’s a with pyjamas.

How would you describe your style? Consider anything and everything from color to historical eras and more.

-I like being versatile. You will not find monochromes or a particular ‘type’ of clothing in my wardrobe. I wear everything from hot pants to traditional sarees; blacks and greys to neon colours; simple, tiny studs to heavy, large earrings that look like they’ll tear off your ears. So, it’s a mix of everything depending on my mood and occasion.

Where do you generally shop?

-I love shopping at Shoppers’ stop, west side, Koramangala, street shopping at commercial street, Brigade road, Tibetian Plaza etc.

What other modeling projects have you done? Could you provide links?

It’s been less than a year since I started modelling. I have a lot to accomplish.

Out of all of the photos the photographer took of you, which is your favorite and why?

Every photograph has been special in its own way. My favourites are those clicked by Tuhin Biswas and Krishna Adoni in the woods on a hill on the outskirts of bangalore where I’m wearing a flowy white dress. And I also love the pictures where I’m wearing blues and greens that Anandjohn Wesley clicked during my shoot for a designer. The best ones are those clicked by leading fashion photographer, Mr. Manish Gupta for my portfolio. I love those!

What makes Bangalore fashion unique?

Bangalore is an extremely diverse city with people from all over the world staying here. So, you’ll find a bit of everything that makes it so perfect and unique.

What is fun and rewarding about modeling?

I love the fact that I get to meet lots of new people, make friends, wear pretty clothes (who doesn’t? :P ), pull off a graceful walk wearing sky high pencil heels (though it is sometimes a pain), have a fan following, being recognised etc. It makes me feel special.

What do you dislike about modeling?

The politics and corruption. The fact that models are sometimes taken for granted. It is extremely unfortunate that some people exploit models and expect them to compromise on their morals and ethics in return for fame and money. And it’s even more saddening that there are girls who’re blinded to everything else and are ready for it.

What advice do you have for other aspiring models?

Be yourself. Never give up your self esteem or principles for anything, because nothing’s worth it. Be careful in choosing the right people in this industry.

How do you prepare for a modeling shoot?

I pack my necessities on the previous night. Make sure my nails are done, eyebrows in shape and hair washed; Have a healthy meal and get a good night sleep.

How would you describe working with the photographer?

It’s a lot of fun working with the photographers. I make sure I meet the photographer before the shoot begins and get to know him/her, so that we’re both comfortable working in each other’s company. It’s also sometimes challenging because you’re expecting to bring to life with perfection, the image the photographer has in mind.

What makes a stylish lady or man? Is there a difference?

Not really. Like I said, if a person is confident in what he/she is wearing, they automatically become stylish and attractive.

How would you describe the photographer’s style?

Depends on who the photographer is. But I’ve had a pleasant experience in most of my shoots, because the photographers have generally been warm and supportive. It really helps when they share tips and advises and give us an honest opinion, and it also feels good when they pat your back and appreciate your work.

What comments do you have about frugal fashion–smart or petty?

-Smart. If you can save an extra buck, why not?

Who are some of your favorite fashion photographers?

-Manish Gupta, Tuhin Biswas, Anandjohn Wesley, Krishna Adoni, Prajwal Acharya, Manoj Aryan, Karthik Srinivasan etc.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion is a way of life. It’s not just restricted to clothing.

What distinguishes a good model from a bad one?

A good model- Confident, Versatile, work-oriented, someone with the right attitude and who knows where he/she wants to reach one day.A bad one- anything otherwise.

What distinguishes a good photograph from a bad one?

-A good photographer is patient, warm, focused and honest with the model.

What makes bangalore a good shopping city? How could [your city's] shopping be improved?

-The diversity, the number of places you can actually shop, the pricing, the number of choices in colours, texture, material etc. Its perfect!

What are some other cities you think provide good/great shopping experiences?

-Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad.

How has modeling changed other aspects of your life?

Nothing much has changed except that I now have a larger fan following and people look at me in awe :P

Do you do your own hair and make-up?

We’re generally provided with make up artists and hair stylists. But even otherwise, I can take care of both since I’m big on styling even otherwise.

What are some of the main differences between runway and photographic modeling?

Height is a major criteria for run way models. Also, the attitude, body language, presentation are more important since one cannot use Photoshop to fix a flaw in runway modelling :P

What was the premise for the shoot you did with the photographer?

I’ve done both indoor as well as outdoor shoots.

What’s your favorite outfit in this set of photos?

The red, black and white short dress and the saree.

What’s your favorite outfit from your own closet? Do you have your own personal uniform?

-I love all my clothes. But most of my favorites are the ones my mom picks out for me. And, no, I do not have a personal uniform.

Describe the atmosphere when you’re on a shoot. Do you play music? Do you talk with the photographer between shots?

Both, actually. We play music to keep the atmosphere alive and to be enthusiastic. But, yes, there’s definitely talking.

Anything else you’d like to say?
Thank you. :)
